Maureen Smith is an intern therapist in Marriage and Family Therapy. She is an Associate Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy and a student member of the Virginia Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. Maureen is completing her Masters of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Virginia Tech University. She provides therapy to individuals, couples, families, and adolescents who are experiencing problems related to anxiety, depression, trauma, life adjustment, parenting, family conflict, and marital/relationship distress.

Counseling Experience

Maureen's experience includes both outpatient and residential counseling to individuals, couples, families, adolescents, and children. Throughout her graduate training she has worked with clients experiencing a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, substance use, family and marital conflict, domestic violence, life stage transition, and childhood trauma. Maureen has also worked with adolescent females in residential care that have experienced sexual and physical abuse, neglect, school truancy, running away, domestic violence, and have become involved in the court system. She provides individual, family, and group treatment to the adolescents and their families using a range of systemic and expressive approaches. She facilitates parent and multi-family therapy groups to address concerns regarding parenting, setting limits, addressing sexuality and risky behavior, and connecting with adolescents in a meaningful way.
